Google has released three major Search updates: Gemini 2.5 Pro, Deep Search, and a new agent feature. Available only to U.S. users enrolled in the Search Generative Experience with Pro or Ultra plans, these tools deliver richer context, more interactive replies, and the groundwork for a built-in reasoning assistant. AI insights now appear directly in the search bar, reshaping routine lookups into deeper problem-solving sessions.

Gemini 2.5 Pro, Google’s top large language model, now runs inside AI Mode for subscribers. It can show step-by-step solutions for complex math queries in a conversational style, similar to specialized computation platforms. Research prompts return structured summaries with citation links and “learn more” options. A dropdown menu lets users switch between quick replies and detailed explanations, all within the search results interface.

Deep Search layers semantic reasoning on top of keyword matching. Powered by Gemini, it reformulates questions, explores related concepts, and merges live web data with model-driven insights. Rather than simply listing pages, it surfaces concise answers drawn from long-form articles, reports, and expert blogs. Users probing topics like how non-citizens can start a business in California, optimal fasting schedules for women over 40, or the differences between carbon capture methods see cross-referenced, up-to-date responses.

Google calls Deep Search a bridge between “factual lookup” and “exploratory synthesis,” shifting Search from a reactive list generator to an active collaborator. This approach aims to cut down on manual cross-checks by delivering holistic insights and tracking topic threads across multiple queries in a single session.

An experimental agent framework underlies these features. Context-aware agents can recall previous queries, learn from interactions, and refine results dynamically. Search can hold a conversation thread, accept follow-up prompts, and support project-style workflows without starting from scratch. Early trials within Gemini Pro’s reasoning tasks and Deep Search’s query expansion hint at a future where the search box acts more like a dedicated research companion.

At this stage, these capabilities require U.S. enrollment in the Search Generative Experience and a Gemini Pro subscription. For students, professionals, and researchers, the updates promise less time spent juggling sources and more time on analysis. On a larger scale, this move signals a tighter link between foundational AI models and everyday tools, moving Search closer to an intelligent collaborator ready to tackle multi-step information tasks.
